The Tempe History Museum is a center where the community comes together to explore Tempe’s past, share its present and imagine its future. Admission is free. The museum hosts a variety of events for all ages - most are free to attend.

The Tempe History Museum has a large variety of resources, both online and at the museum facility, that can assist you in conducting your own research on Tempe history. The online resources give you access to many documents and photographs that will help you explore Tempe's history in more depth.

The museum hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year – from live music performances and festivals that celebrate Tempe’s heritage, to exhibit receptions, monthly lunch talks and much more!

The museum explores Tempe history through collections, research services, exhibits, and programs that captivate and connect with audiences throughout the community and beyond. Visitors can explore four thematic areas: College Town, Building Our Community, Living Together and Surviving in the Desert.

Welcome to the Tempe History Museum’s online collections. There are more than 70,000 historic artifacts, photographs, and archival documents for you to explore. Most items have been donated to the museum by members of our community, and relate directly to Tempe’s history.

The main exhibition hall, entitled, Tempe: Distinct, Diverse, Dynamic, is the heart of the Tempe History Museum. Here the story of Tempe is told interactively through a variety of media and displays.

Tempe was a small agricultural community through most of its history. After World War II, Tempe began growing at a rapid rate as veterans and others moved to the city. The last of the local farms quickly disappeared.

T he Tempe History Museum Archives contain close to 50,000 cataloged photographs and historic documents. We are currently upgrading our archives so that some of the holdings can be searched for online.
