Perched on an 80-foot bluff overlooking the Tennessee River, the Hunter Museum of American Art features a collection of nearly 3,000 works illustrating the diversity of the American story and the creativity of the American spirit.

The Hunter is located in the heart of Chattanooga's downtown arts district and is open to the public 6 days a week. In addition to Tuesdays, the museum is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

The Hunter Museum of American Art resides in the heart of Chattanooga, perched on a 50-foot rock face overlooking the tranquil Tennessee River. From many of our venue spaces, you’ll see sweeping views of the rolling hills of North Shore, the patriotic Veteran’s Bridge, and historic Walnut Street Bridge.

The Hunter Museum of American Art collects, preserves, and presents American art and connects the community through inspiring educational and visitor-focused experiences for all.

We are committed to engaging adults and university students through specialized programs that deepen their understanding and appreciation of American art. By offering curated lectures, workshops, and collaborative discussions, we aim to foster a vibrant dialogue between the museum and the community.

Campers will explore the Hunter’s collection while creating a wide variety of artworks including sculpture, textiles, prints and more. With five unique days of art making and fun, campers will expand their creative horizons with inspiration from our current special exhibition.
