Jun 5, 2023 · A blue-shelled Koopa General (voiced by Scott Menville) appears in the 2023 film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, obliterating much of the film’s depiction of Rainbow Road after shouting “Blue shell!” as a battlecry.

I thought it was a lot more clever how this Koopa with a spiny blue shell was using a heavy vehicle to crush past vehicles on his way up to hit the first place driver. I thought that was a very clever and subtle reference. Mario, in the lead, was still being chased by a destructive blue spiny shell.
