Updating maps of Southern California show where wildfires, including the Palisades, Eaton and Hughes fires, are burning across Los Angeles.

As firefighters start to get the upper hand on the Eaton and Palisades fires, the focus now shifts to clearing debris from the thousands of destroyed or heavily damaged homes, an effort complicated by hazardous materials and toxic ash.

Firefighters on Sunday continued to surround the deadly Palisades and Eaton fires in Los Angeles County, working ahead of yet another Santa Ana windstorm, this one expected to move into the region on Monday with gusts of up to 70 mph in coastal and valley areas; and 60 to 100 mph in the mountains and foothills.

Over a week after destructive wildfires erupted in the Los Angeles area, fire crews have made progress with containment and stopped growth of the Eaton and Palisades fires.

Santa Ana winds continued challenging firefighters on the Palisades and Eaton fires, but containment inched forward along the coast, and debris cleanup was underway in both burn scars ahead of possible rain coming over the weekend, authorities said.
