Hours after he was inaugurated for a second term on Monday, President Donald Trump signed executive orders declaring a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border and reshaped policy to target anyone in the country illegally — “millions and millions” of people, according to him — for deportation.

Chicago is bracing for President Donald Trump to enact his mass deportation policy and conduct sweeping immigration raids. In a Tuesday interview, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, a Democrat, reaffirmed that city authorities won't cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ).

The incoming administration has vowed to make Chicago ground zero for raids. Thus, communities across the Chicago area that have become safe havens for undocumented immigrants are now bracing themselves for what will be a very unpredictable next few days — if not weeks.
