The change in forecast was a welcomed development as the New Orleans area steels itself for the approaching heart of the hurricane season.
The storm will bring heavy rainfall to the region, and a flood watch was in effect for southeastern Louisiana through Friday night.
The large-scale atmospheric pattern looks to become more conducive for tropical development in early August, but we'll see. In the meantime, another system like this week's disturbance could develop in the northern Gulf or off the Southeast coast,
A system that landed in Louisiana Thursday currently does not have any chance of forming, but it will still bring more heavy rains and potential flooding to southern Louisiana Friday and Saturday. The region remains under a flood watch after much of the New Orleans area was left unscathed Thursday.

Invest 93L will move westward over Louisiana on Thursday. The western Florida Panhandle will see minor impacts through Saturday.
