He won in Australia at the start of the season when it hammered down. He won at Silverstone last time out when it also poured with rain. Now Lando Norris is hoping to make it a hat-trick of wet weather wins for the year after claiming pole position at a Spa circuit which is braced for its traditional race-day monsoon.

Lando Norris said Red Bull’s suggestion that McLaren were putting water in their tyres was “pre-school” and was “nonsense.” That accusation first came to light after the Brazilian Grand Prix when it was revealed that Red Bull believed McLaren to be using this method in order to make their tyres last longer.
