The public beta of iOS 26 is now live, offering users an early look at Apple’s next big iPhone software release.
The UK’s competition authority has proposed giving the tech giants “Strategic Market Status,” which means they would be subject to bespoke conduct requirements designed to curb anti-competitive practices. Apple and Google hold an “effective duopoly,” with between 90% and 100% of all UK smartphones running on iOS or Android.
Apple has reportedly been working on a HomePod with a screen for years, and a new leak from iOS 26 seems to confirm its existence.
Notification summaries are once again working with news app headlines in the fourth iOS 26 developer beta, though it is too early to tell if it will actually work properly this time.
That’s changing in iOS 26. As spotted by MacRumors, when you tap within a message, you’ll get a cursor that will highlight the text you want as well as an option to copy part of it. Then you can take that bit of text and paste it into whatever app you want.
As with every iOS update, iOS 26 will bring with it some changes for the CarPlay interface that appears when your iPhone is connected to your vehicle – and Apple has now quietly confirmed that one of those changes will be support for video playback.
Apple has sued the well-known leaker Jon Prosser for the alleged theft of trade secrets related to iOS 26. Prosser has been accused of tasking another man, Michael Ramacciotti, with secretly accessing an Apple employee’s development iPhone and using that information to report on Apple’s planned changes in the then-unannounced iOS 26.
