The National Weather Service Office in Wakefield, VA has issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of the Roanoke-Chowan area as well as northeastern North Carolina (except for the Outer Banks) and southside Virginia. Snowfall estimates have increased since Monday’s report of 4-to-6 inches in the local area.

Some melting looks to occur during tomorrow afternoon as temperature warm into the 30s and the sun peeks out. This may seem like good news, but it could lead to the development of black ice as the snowmelt refreezes after sundown. Travel will be much improved by the time you're heading to your Super Bowl festivities.

A Winter Storm Warning was issued at about 3 a.m. Saturday and is in effect until 8 p.m. for Brown, Kewaunee and Shawano counties. The weather service shows a band of heavy snow along the State 29 corridor. Areas just north of that corridor and to the south of it are expected to get 4 to 6 inches.

Another major influx of winter weather impacted major cities in the Plains and Midwest before the heavy snow charged eastward into areas suffering from recent flooding in Kentucky and Tennessee.
