If you use Android apps on Windows, you're likely using the Windows Subsystem for Android. However, Microsoft has announced that they are sunsetting the service in 2025.

Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), which has been around since 2022, will finally be able to access Windows 11 folders like Documents and Pictures in an upcoming update.

The Windows Subsystem for Android made its first appearance back in 2021. This came along with the Windows 11 launch and it brought Android apps to Windows devices.

However, the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), responsible for handling app support, remained available only to Windows Insiders in some markets, with limited functionality.

The Windows Subsystem for Android allows you to run some Android apps on Windows 11 computers. First launched as a preview in 2021, Microsoft removed the “preview” label a few months ago.

While Windows 11 was released in October 2021, the Windows Subsystem for Android did not become generally available until February 2022 -- four months after the initial Windows 11 release.

The end of support for Windows Subsystem for Android in Windows 11 is slated for March 5, 2025, per an "Important" notice in this Microsoft document.

Microsoft announced that Windows Subsystem for Android will be deprecated in March 2025, but Amazon has already stopped its Appstore from being downloadable on Windows 11.
