The building-sized asteroid, dubbed 2024 YR4, was first spotted travelling through space in December 2024 and measures between 174 and 220 feet, about as wide as the Leaning Tower of Pisa is tall.

Demolition begins at the former Leaning Tower YMCA building in Niles, April 30, 2025. The Leaning Tower of Niles, the 90-year-old half-scale replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, will remain standing.
