Touch has transformed our cellphones in the past two years, but recent months have seen the spread of button-free screens into just about every corner of gadget land.

They found that the touch screen registered distinct clusters of touch points for different finger orientations. In some cases those distinct clusters were just 2 to 3 millimetres across.
