May 23—BLOWING ROCK — All aboard! Thomas the Tank Engine, everyone's favorite blue engine, is heading to Tweetsie Railroad and bringing a colorful new spin to Day Out With Thomas events.

Britt Allcroft, the creator of the Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends series, has died at age 81. Filmmaker Brannon Carty announced the sad news announced on X, formerly Twitter.

The series aired as Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends from 1984 until 2021. Allcroft’s family remembered her as an “adoring mother and wife and visionary producer” in an emotional statement.
