The Department of Agriculture said Wednesday that it’s trying to hire back fired employees who’d been working on the government’s response to bird flu ― a growing outbreak that’s caused egg prices to soar,

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Tuesday that it accidentally fired multiple agency employees that were working on a response to the outbreak of the H5N1 avian flu, otherwise known as bird flu, according to NBC News. Now the agency says that it is trying to rehire those workers as quickly as possible.

The study published Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention echoes two smaller ones that detected evidence of infection in previously undiagnosed farmworkers. In those studies, several of the infected workers remembered having symptoms of H5N1 bird flu, while none of the veterinarians in the new paper recalled any such symptoms.
