Oracle and OpenAI are developing additional data-center capacity for the AI infrastructure project — but Evercore says investors are wondering how Oracle will finance the cost.

Oracle shares are taking a hit as doubts emerge about the pace of the $500 billion Stargate artificial-intelligence infrastructure project. But the software and cloud-computing company still looks set to benefit from a strong partnership with OpenAI.

The new data center comes as Oracle and OpenAI are already opening the so-called Stargate I site in Abilene, Texas. The locations of the new sites have not been disclosed. With the new agreement, OpenAI said it is developing data centers worth 5 gigawatts of capacity with Oracle.
