LAS VEGAS -- Officials at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino here announced plans to add a 1.8 million-square-foot convention center complex to the property.

The three-floor center will be built just south of Mandalay Bay's existing convention area, on 16.5 acres at the south end of the property.

Anticipating brisk business at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center -- which is on schedule for a January opening -- the property rolled out plans for a 1,150-suite tower to be connected to the hotel.
