Kraft Heinz on Tuesday announced plans to remove synthetic food dyes from its US products by 2027 and vowed not to launch any new products with the colors.
The company did, however, remove artificial colors, preservatives and flavors from its Kraft Mac & Cheese in 2016. Kraft Heinz said it will remove all color additives from its products by 2027.
Kraft Heinz is the latest food and beverage company to move away from artificial colors as the federal government restricts the use of some dyes.
Kraft Heinz replaced artificial dyes in its Kraft Mac & Cheese product in 2016, while some other products, including Heinz Tomato Ketchup, have never had dyes, the company said.
Nearly 90% of Kraft Heinz’s products sold in the U.S. contain no synthetic dyes, according to the company. It removed dyes from Kraft Macaroni & Cheese in 2016.
