Governor Kathy Hochul, who has the power to remove Mayor Eric Adams from office, met Tuesday with key leaders as she considers the mayor's future.It comes as Adams and prosecutors with Trump's Justice Department plan to appear before a judge in New York City on Wednesday to explain why they believe federal bribery charges should be dropped.

Now, Hochul faces a new calculus. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar, hold tremendous leverage over Adams. He must cooperate with the Trump deportation regime or Bondi could ask the DOJ to revive the charges. Adams is weaker than he’s ever been, and New Yorkers certainly aren’t benefiting from that.
