Russia has been banned since its 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine won Eurovision that year, but couldn't host in 2023 because of the ongoing war, so the English city of Liverpool stood in.

Sweden’s Loreen won the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, with U.K. contender Mae Muller placing near the bottom. Next year’s contest will be held at Malmö, Sweden in May 2024.
