A U.S. passenger flight preparing to leave the nation’s capital and an incoming military jet received instructions to divert and prevent a possible collision.

The inciden t took place at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, the scene of an air tragedy earlier this year. A total of 67 people were killed when a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter operated by three soldiers collided with American Eagle Flight 5342 as it descended into Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia around 9 pm.

The passenger jet was cleared for takeoff on Friday afternoon while four T-38 Talons were inbound to Arlington National Cemetery for a flyover.
