While Fox had respectable success with the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four movies (which starred Chris Evans as Johnny Storm pre-Captain America), the former studio saw a Josh Trank-directed 2015 reboot completely tank after a full reshoot, grossing only $167M worldwide. This time, it’s different — it’s Feige’s Fantastic Four.

Kevin Feige recently discussed Marvel Studios’ approach to The Fantastic Four: First Steps and its Earth-828 setting in a new press interview. He explained the early decision to set the film in a separate universe,

It's no surprise that Feige is is pegging a "reset" to the X-Men, given the company's years-long effort to buy the characters back from 21st Century Fox, which finally came to fruition in 2019 when Disney, Marvel's parent company, acquired Fox.
