Ice storms can cause significant damage, such as downing power lines, but King said such impacts are not expected with the approaching storm. The last time Chicago saw more than a quarter-inch of ice was in February 2019, and while this storm is not anticipated to reach that level, people should still stay alert to any changes in the forecast.

As for how much snow we're getting, NBC mentions that models suggest an accumulation of less than an inch. Clearly, the issue is going to be the ice, not the snow. Two major winter storms are expected to hit the Midwest this week, with moderate to heavy snowfall in the Chicago area. Between the two storms, residents could see close to a foot of snow from Wednesday through Saturday.
