The Kansas City community knows Elijah Ming as a Wyandotte County sheriff's deputy dressed in a blue law enforcement uniform. But his former teammates know him as Eli, and he wore a different uniform.

Deputy Elijah Ming, 34, was shot and killed on July 26, 2025, while responding to a domestic incident. Outside the Wyandotte County Courthouse on Monday afternoon, his squad car was parked on the lawn near the fallen officers memorial, adorned with flowers. Many made the trek in the muggy conditions to the memorial to mourn their friend.

Sunday evening, community members, friends and fellow law enforcement officers gathered outside the Wyandotte County Courthouse for a prayer vigil in honor of fallen deputy Elijah Ming.
