Ecuador’s most notorious drug kingpin has been extradited to the United States, a month after he was recaptured following a prison escape that sparked a wave of violence across the country.

Ecuador has extradited the leader of a violent Ecuadorian gang who relied on hitmen, bribes and military weapons to do business to the United States.

José Adolfo Macías, known as Fito, escaped twice before authorities in the South American country apprehended him. He appeared in a music video from prison.
