An East Texas lawmaker with a role in congressional redistricting says committee members will hear concerns raised by the Department of Justice as they redraw the state’s congressional maps. State Rep.

State Rep. Cole Hefner (R-Mount Pleasant) said he’s looking to determine if changing the state’s congressional maps is necessary. “It’s not uncommon to make tweaks to redistricting in between the ten-year normal redistricting cycle. But until we dig into it, we’ll just have to see where it goes,” Hefner said.
Martin is seeking to replace the late Rep. Sylvester Turner, who died on March 5, as the Texas’ 18th Congressional District representative.
