The Metropolitan Transit Authority Board on Wednesday unanimously approved a 10 percent fare increase for Connecticut Metro-North riders, despite public opposition and consistently increased ridership.

The MTA’s board voted for Connecticut’s proposed fare increase, which would raise the fee by 5% on Sept. 1 and again on July 1, 2026, for riders on the section of the New Haven Line that runs through Connecticut.

The MTA Board has approved a proposal from the Connecticut Department of Transportation to raise rates by 10 percent for all rail services.
