Destiny 2 Map Fragments are an important resource you can gather in-game as of Season 8. You'll need them if you want to craft Treasure Maps.

How to Get Map Fragments in Destiny 2 Play Ketchcrash or rank up the Season Pass and the Star Chart in the H.E.L.M. Every time you Ketchcrash, you’ll pick up around 10 Map Fragments.

Season 16, during The Witch Queen, will bring two Destiny 2 maps out of the content vault. I don’t know if you can see it, but I emphasized 2, as these are maps that went away when Beyond Light hit.
