Joe Coulombe was a forward-thinking entrepreneur when he launched Trader Joe’s in 1967. He passed away on Feb. 28 at his home in Pasadena, not far from the popular chain’s very first store.
Coulombe owned and operated Trader Joe’s privately before selling it to German discount grocery retailer Aldi Nord in 1979. Leroy Watson has fond memories of Trader Joe’s.
