A day before Tomorrowland was set to kick off on Thursday, videos of the fest's main stage engulfed by flames began circulating online. The festival's official website and Instagram released an official statement confirming the "serious incident and fire," adding that the event's "beloved Mainstage has been severely damaged."

Newsweek reached out to the Tomorrowland festival via email on Wednesday afternoon for comment. Photos showed smoke billowing up from the stage on Wednesday, less than two days before the massive event was set to kick off and welcome more than 70,000 festival goers. Emergency responders and firetrucks were at the scene as the fire blazed.

Tomorrowland, in the Belgium town of Boom, is considered the world’s largest electronic dance music festival. The stage was “severely damaged” by the fire, organizers said.
