(dramatic music) (narrator) Bethlehem Steel made the ships, tanks, and guns that helped win the world wars, while at home, the plant welcomed women to their force.
For several months, Bethlehem has been considering creating separate business units at each of its steel mills at Sparrows Point, Burns Harbor, Bethlehem and Steelton, Pa.
Bethlehem Steel built the Burns Harbor mill in the early 1960s and operated it until it filed bankruptcy in 2001.
Today, the Burns Harbor port is home to 30 companies, including three steel mills and 15 steel-related companies on its nearly 600 acres.
The now-defunct Bethlehem Steel Corp. transformed the Lake Michigan shoreline in Porter County when it built the Bethlehem Steel mill on 4,000 acres of undeveloped duneland in Burns Harbor.
