In a series of bills signed into law on Sept. 27, the banana slug, Dungeness crab and black abalone join a plethora of other wildlife in representing California.

Banana slugs also eat the plants, competing with the California redwood seedlings for water, light, and nutrients. The slug can be found across the state.
