Ascena Retail Group, the parent company of Ann Taylor, Lane Bryant and other chains, plans to cut the number of its retail locations by nearly 60%, to about 1,200 from about 2,800.

Ascena Retail Group, which owns Ann Taylor, Dress Barn, Loft, Lane Bryant, Justice, Maurices and Catherines stores, plans to close between 250 and 650 locations over the next two years.

Holtz, who worked for Ann Taylor from 1997 to 2000 before joining the Limited, Inc., has been serving as a consultant to Loft for about six weeks, sources said.
