The A340 is one of four Lufthansa aircraft types with first class cabins flying to the US, along with the Airbus A380, Boeing 747-8i and newly-inaugurated A350-900 and its new Allegris suites.

Airbus stopped making the A340 in 2011 after improvements in engine technology caused airlines to switch to two-engined models such as the Boeing 777 and, in future, the A350.
