On Monday, Ed Martin, the interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, sent the dean of Georgetown University Law Center, a Catholic law school, a letter that said, “It has come to my attention reliably that Georgetown Law School continues to teach and promote D.E.I. This is unacceptable.”

Ed Martin, the interim US Attorney for DC and President Trump’s nominee to permanently fill the role, issued an ultimatum to Georgetown Law School’s dean earlier this week: Martin said his office would not hire anybody associated with the program unless the university suspends all of its DEI efforts.

In another reckless, unethical, and highly politicized move, acting D.C. U.S. Attorney Ed Martin is implicitly threatening Georgetown Law School with criminal investigation and explicitly blackballing its students unless the university ends all DEI efforts.

In his latest gambit, Ed Martin targeted Georgetown Law School and academic freedom. That really wasn’t a good idea.
