PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — After steel, the backbone of Pittsburgh's economy became one of educational and medical institutions. But the Trump administration is cutting more than $100 million in federal research funding to the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University.

The statement said CMU is represented as an AAU member and that the university also joined as an individual party plaintiff.

Carnegie Mellon University late Monday joined a lawsuit filed by the Association of American Universities seeking to stop the federal government from drastically reducing funding at the National Institutes of Health.
