Like any newly viral star, the greater white-fronted goose didn't expect its rise in popularity when it crash-landed in front of more than 50,000 fans at Dodgers Stadium on Oct. 12.

Both species are white with black outer wings, but snow geese are noticeably larger than Ross’s geese. And in Colorado snows outnumber Ross’s about a thousand to one.

Like the white-fronted goose it, too, is a winter visitor here. In areas such as ours, some of the Canada geese are year-round residents, and there is a lot of cross-breeding.
