Polk County Deputy Lindsey Clem, 30, arrived on Masterpiece Road in Lake Wales, where she was confronted by the unidentified man coming toward her and pulling a knife from his pocket. Clem told the man to drop the knife several times, Judd said, and called for backup while trying to put the patrol car between herself and the man.

The sheriff said his office got a call shortly before 1 p.m. about a suspicious man in a stranger’s garage. The homeowner told deputies the man asked him for a gun and said he wanted to be killed, Grady said.
