The University of California named Ron Rivera as its general manager of the school's football program, Chancellor Rich Lyons announced Thursday. Rivera, 63, returns to his alma mater in the newly created position.

For many years, Ron Rivera was well-known as an NFL coach. His first head coaching gig came with the Carolina Panthers in 2011, and in just his fifth season with them, he guided them to a 15-1 record and a trip to Super Bowl 50.
