Late singer Sharda Sinha was awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously in the Art category as well. On April 28, the first phase of the award ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

A total of 139 distinguished persons were named for the country's civilian awards -- Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri -- on the eve of the 76th Republic Day on January 25.

Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian award in India as a part of the Padma Awards. The Padma Bhushan is preceded by the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Vibhushan and is followed by the Padma Shri.
