The £80m Thanet Earth complex near Birchington was to have delivered its first salad crops to shops this autumn. But excavations on the 91-hectare site uncovered finds going back to Neolithic times.

Thanet Earth's parent company, fresh produce supplier Fresca, is based in Paddock Wood, Kent. It says east Kent is ideally suited to crop production, having 17% more light than other parts of the UK.
