Aug. 12, 2024 at 9:47 a.m. PT Microsoft Microsoft is pulling the plug on Paint 3D. On November 4, the app will be kicked out of the Microsoft Store and will no longer be available for download.

Microsoft is removing its Paint 3D app from its store in November. The app was supposed to replace MS Paint at one point, but it’s now being deprecated.

Microsoft recommends the Paint and Photos apps for viewing and editing 2D images and the 3D Viewer app for viewing 3D models. Creating and editing 3D images will be left to third-party software.

The update will also give more users in Europe access to Image Creator, an AI-image generator introduced to Paint in 2023 and powered by Dall-E, due to Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI.

In the future, you will be able to use the OpenAI-LLM Dall-E directly in Windows 11 and in Paint. The new functions are also available after installing the Microsoft Paint app from the App Store.

If Microsoft continues to add features to Paint though, it's easy to see the editor gaining a little ground. Especially given that it's free, it's still more appealing than the paid alternatives.
