Premature, flower bud-drop has become a more serious problem with hibiscus. Some varieties, especially some doubles, exhibit a chronic problem with premature dropping of buds.

Heat also can be a factor. Some cultivars of hibiscus (often double-flowered ones) begin to drop buds when daytime highs stay consistently in the 90s.
