International Peace Day was initiated by the United Nations in 1981 to promote world peace and a war-free world. Every year a theme is chosen to focus on issues and make decisions regarding the theme.

Today is National Peace Officers Memorial Day—a solemn reminder of the men and women in uniform who gave their lives protecting others. Every badge tells a story, and some stories end in sacrifice.
