The streak of below-freezing temperatures started in metro Denver at 4 p.m. Monday and is forecast to break around noon Thursday, forecasters said.

Due to frigid temperatures forecast throughout the week, the City of Denver is extending its cold weather shelters through Feb. 20.

A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day will be in effect Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as temperatures fall down below zero.

Denver officials will open the Coliseum as a cold weather shelter this weekend and keep other shelters open as below-freezing temperatures continue in the metro.

Thursday will have a cold start with negative wind chill values across the state before sunshine helps to warm temperatures into the upper 30s in the Denver weather forecast.
