It starts with the script. And that includes R-rated blockbusters. “Deadpool & Wolverine” (Marvel/Disney) didn’t get to $1.3 billion worldwide without entertaining a ton of global moviegoers.

Deadpool & Wolverine ended its theatrical run with over $1.3 billion in cash. No Way Home made almost $2 billion during its theatrical window, but that’s a Sony movie.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is, sure, the year’s second highest-grossing feature, with a whopping $1.338 billion worldwide. It proved that there was still plenty of gas in the Marvel Studios tank.

But “Deadpool & Wolverine” is the first R-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe entry, and the first R-rated movie to gross more than $1.3 billion.
