'Tile murals can be a way of transporting you to somewhere else, depending on the pattern and design of them – think of it as creating a story within your own kitchen,' she adds.

Recently, she was hard at work on a mural depicting tropical parakeets, palms, hibiscus and birds of paradise. It was made of 240 tiles equating to 240-square-feet.

Seven years later, the artist who helped 750 students at McKinley School in Pasadena build an 110-foot long mural is working to take it down -- one tiny glass tile at a time.
