Finally, the color of lightning can sometimes signify how hot the lightning bolt is. They're not all the same. Red, orange and yellow bolts are fairly cool at or less than 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Lightning comes in every color of the rainbow (Red, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, and Violet, to name a few). It's almost always white, but often it's tinged with another color around the edges.

Very distant lightning may have the reddish look because of the distance traveled, which causes the light to be filtered, thus leaving only the red color.
