Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has defended a state agency’s involvement with a $10 million donation to a charity founded by his wife as a “cherry on top” deal involving a settlement between the agency and the state’s largest Medicaid contractor.

The unusual injection of cash was part of an undisclosed settlement agreement involving Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration.

Officials said the payment to Florida first lady's Hope Florida Foundation was not disclosed as it did not involve state funds.
