Typically, Black History Month is flooded with small history lessons, remembering our ancestors and prominent leaders as well as acknowledging the Black firsts of every category of life. However, what made this month special were the series of events that occurred that shined a light on how brilliant (and gangsta) the Black community is.

For City of Killeen mayor Debbie Nash-King, serving others has been a lifelong calling. Whether as a young child volunteering alongside her grandmother or as a public leader today, her heart for service has guided her every step.

As the United States debates the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, some are speaking out about why they matter. Cultural arts presenter Garry Moore spoke at the Laborers Local 362 Hall in Bloomington Monday night to share his perspective on the importance of black history and DEI initiatives,

Black Citizens and Friends President David Combs states, “Without Black History, we would not have complete history.” While February is known for Valentines Day, it is one of the many months to celebrate history and that is Black History Month.
