Pierce County will get its first Black Bear Diner when a location opens in Lakewood this month.

The menu, with comfort food offerings so familiar in the South, was another positive. Black Bear Diner is a chain with locations mostly in the West, the first opening in Mount Shasta, Calif., in 1995.

Black Bear Diner, featuring American classics and a lodge-like atmosphere, is slated to open there in the first half of 2017. The restaurant is a franchise from brothers Steve and Chris Orchekowsky.
